PREAMBLE
The melodies, texts and paintings that will be presented to you during this visit were created by the internees of this camp, behind the barbed wire within this miserable camp. They are the most intimate expression of their sufferings, their anxieties and their hopes… Stripped of everything, they carried art in their hearts like their most precious jewel, like an ultimate refuge in which they were able to preserve their human dignity. Eighty years later, these works are reborn for a moment in front of us to immerse us in the experience of the internees, in the heart of what was the Gurs camp.
